Computer Vision

As more and more people opt to work from home, cases of computer vision are on the rise. Human eyes were not designed to stare at a computer screen for hours on end. A recent study found more than 70% of those who use computers regularly suffered from some sort of vision issue. If you think you are suffering from computer vision, contact our eye doctor at Eye See in Lincolnshire. We can help with computer vision and any other eye health issues.

What Is Computer Vision Syndrome?

When you spend the day looking at a digital screen, whether it is a computer, tablet, or even a cell phone it puts extra stress on your eyes. That stress can cause a variety of symptoms. If you spend more than two continuous hours per day looking at a screen, you are at risk. It may also be that your glasses were not designed for looking at a computer and cause you to tilt your head at angles that are not ergonomic.

Symptoms of Computer Vision

Several different symptoms may result from the eye strain caused by looking at an electronic display. They include:

  • Blurry vision
  • Headaches
  • Dry eyes
  • Neck and back pain
  • Eye strain

Some of the things you are doing while looking at the computer screen may contribute to your discomfort. If you are working in poor lighting, using a screen with glare, sitting at the wrong distance from the screen, using poor posture, or have uncorrected vision issues, you may exacerbate the situation.

Treating Computer Vision

In simple cases of computer vision following the 20-20-20 rule is the first step. Every 20 minutes take a break for 20 seconds and look at something that is 20 feet away. You can improve the lighting, get a glare-reducing screen cover, make sure your seat is at the right height, and get regular eye exams from our eye doctor.
